1. Realistic Novel:

A made-up attempt to give the impression of realism .This style of fiction is referred to as a novel of manners. Complicated characters with contradictory goals who are based in socioeconomic status and function within a well-developed social system identify a realistic fiction. In a realistic story, the characters interact with one another and go through realistic and everyday events.

Example : Looking for Alaska, Wonder, Save me a Seat, Out of My Mind, The fault in Our Stars etc.

2. Picaresque novel

A picaresque novel is an episodic novel that tells the adventures of an eccentric or disreputable hero. Picaro, which means "rogue" in Spanish, is the name of the genre.

Example : The history of Tom Jones, Joseph Andrews, Lazarillo de Tormes, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Don Quixote etc.

3. Historical novel:

A historical fiction is one that is set in a time period prior to that of the author.

Example: Vanity Fair, Romola, Alias Grace, Gone with the Wind, March, Wolf Hall, A Tale of Two Cities etc.

4. Epistolary Novel

An epistolary novel is one in which the tale is communicated to the reader through a sequence of documents rather than directly to the reader.

An epistolary novel is one in which the characters correspond almost entirely through letters. Rather than having the story and characters recounted in third person, the reader learns about the characters and plot by reading the characters' textual interactions with one another.

In an epistolary novel, the correspondence does not have to be expressly between the two major characters. In an epistolary book, various documents such as journal entries and news clippings might be used to assist explain the plot.

Example of Epistolary Novel : Dracula by Bram Stoker, the Color purple, Pamela, Carrie etc.

5. Experimental Novel

An experimental novel defies the traditions of the moment; what is experimental at one point may be mainstream at another. Many once- radical writing techniques (stream of consciousness, many narrative lines, stories inside stories, or an unreliable narrator) have become standard. Many experimental novels in today's literature are classified as metafiction, a type of storytelling that defies convention by shattering the illusion of fiction. An experimental novel defies the traditions of the moment; what is experimental at one point may be mainstream at another. Many once- radical writing techniques (stream of consciousness, many narrative lines, stories inside stories, or an unreliable narrator) have become standard. Many experimental novels in today's literature are classified as metafiction, a type of storytelling that defies convention by shattering the illusion of fiction.

For example : House of Leaves,  Invisible Monsters, Pale Fire, The Unfortunate etc.

6. Novel of Manners 

A novel of manners is a work of fiction that re- creates a social environment, expressing the customs, values, and mores of a highly developed and complicated society through finely detailed observation.                     

Example of Novel of Manners : Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, Persuasion, Emma.

7. Sentimental Novel

Any work that disproportionately exploits the reader's propensity for empathy, compassion, or sympathy by giving a hazy or unrealistic image of its subject is referred to be a sentimental novel.

Example of Sentimental Novel : Pamela , Vicar of Wakefield , Tristram Shandy , Sentimental Journey, The Fool of Quality, The Man of Feeling etc.

8. Gothic Novel

Gothic literature can be defined in broad terms as writing that uses dark and scenic surroundings, stunning and theatrical narrative tactics, and an overall sense of exoticism, mystery, horror, and dread.

Example of Gothic Novel : Frankenstein, Dracula, The Castle of Otranto, Wuthering Heights etc.

9. Psychological Novel

A psychological novel is a work of fiction in which the characters' thoughts, feelings, and motivations are of equal or more importance than the narrative's external action.

Example of Psychological Novel : A Clockwork Orange , The End of Evangelion , Donnie Darko , A Scanner Darkly, and Inception are notable examples of this film genre.
